Sustainability

We recognize the vital connection between a healthy environment and the well-being of the people we serve.

As a healthcare provider, we have a responsibility to reduce our environmental impact and promote practices that support the long-term health of our patients, residents, team members, and the communities around us.

Our approach to sustainability is thoughtful and holistic, balancing environmental, societal, and economic considerations. We are committed to embedding environmentally responsible practices into our operations in a fiscally responsible way.

Energy Conservation

We have developed an Energy Conservation and Demand Management Plan that reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible resource use. By improving energy efficiency and reducing consumption, we aim to promote sustainability and lower operating costs while continuing to deliver excellent, compassionate care.

Solar Panels

As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability and energy efficiency, we have integrated solar power into our operations. In March 2016, a rooftop solar panel system was successfully installed by iSolara Solar Power of Ottawa under the provincial Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program.

This long-term initiative reduces our environmental footprint by generating clean, renewable energy. Revenue generated through the program, after covering operating costs, is reinvested to support the health and wellness of our patients, residents, and community.

Harnessing solar power reflects our dedication to environmentally responsible practices and innovative solutions that benefit both our organization and the region we serve.

Sustainability in Action

In addition to energy conservation and renewable energy efforts, we support a range of ongoing environmental initiatives.

E-Waste Program

We responsibly collect and recycle electronic waste across our organization, helping divert harmful materials from landfills and supporting responsible disposal practices.

Food Waste Tracking

Our dietary team tracks and analyzes food waste in order to reduce overproduction, improve menu planning, and minimize waste.

Composting with Food Cyclers

We use Food Cycler countertop composters in key areas to turn food waste into nutrient-rich compost, supporting our commitment to landfill diversion and sustainable food practices.

Repurposing of Trees from Construction Site

Trees removed to make way for our new Four Seasons Lodge long-term care home were repurposed and incorporated into the design of the new home, honouring the natural landscape and reducing construction waste.

Native Plant Gardens

We partner with Deep River and Area Horticultural Society to design and maintain outdoor gardens using native plant species that require less water, support biodiversity, and create welcoming green spaces for all to enjoy.
